Hello! I'm Lexi

Special Educator. Ministry leader. Advocate for inclusion.

I teach churches how to accommodate and share the gospel with kids with disabilities.

I believe that

every child should have access to the gospel, regardless of their abilities

And have spent the last 8 years dedicated to this belief, immersing myself in caregiving, teaching and forging close partnerships with families to champion their children's journey. My educational experience, coupled with hands-on ministry and teaching experience equips me uniquely to guide you in serving every student that walks through your doors.

I'd love to share my story with you...

2016

Entering the World of Disability

My freshman year of college, I began studying special education and soon entered the world of disability as a support person for The Arc. I worked for a young man with Down syndrome who I’m still friends with today! Through that experience, I learned so much about disability etiquette, presuming competence, and building real friendships with adults with disabilities—people over programs! My coursework came to life in new ways as I saw firsthand what inclusion, independence and dignity really looked like.

2017

Pursuing Special Education and Leading Ministry

During my sophomore year of college, I continued pursuing my degree in special education, but deep down, I sensed there was something more. I felt a tug toward full-time ministry, yet I couldn’t ignore my passion for teaching. I wrestled with the idea of taking a gap year to explore what God might have next—whether that meant stepping into ministry or gaining hands-on experience in a school as an assistant. During this season, I was also volunteering with a high school ministry called Young Life.

2018

The Gap Year

In 2018, I took the gap year and worked as a 1:1 assistant at a public separate day school for students with profound support needs. That year changed everything. I learned so much about accessibility and what it truly takes to meet each student where they are. But as I poured into my students, my heart grew heavy realizing that many of them might never experience that same level of support and belonging in the Church. I knew God was stirring something in me—I wanted more for them. That’s when my passion for disability ministry began to take root.

2019-2021

Stepping into Disability Ministry

In August 2019, I went back to college and began leading a disability ministry for teens and adults called Young Life Capernaum. I served on a team of 3–5 people who shared my passion for sharing the gospel with individuals with disabilities. Together with our friends, we showed up at high school bocce ball games to cheer them on, piled into cars for trips to pumpkin patches and bowling alleys, and probably spent way too much time and money at Dunkin’—sipping iced lattes and talking about life. This wasn't just a "show up on Tuesday nights" kind of thing. This was a true doing life together thing. I knew I was right where God wanted me. I served as a Capernaum leader throughout college (and beyond), and graduated with a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Special Education in 2021.

My First Teaching Job

In August 2022, I began my first teaching job as a pre-k special education teacher. Up until then, all of my experience had been with teenagers and adults, so stepping into a classroom of little ones with big needs was a whole new world. It only took one day for me to realize that college hadn’t fully prepared me for the realities of teaching. I knew how to teach phonics and adapt a math lesson, but when it came to behavior—I was in over my head. Thankfully, God paired me with the most incredible assistant that year. With over ten years of experience, endless patience, and a wealth of knowledge, she became my mentor and taught me everything I know today about supporting autistic students. Without Robin, I would not have had the confidence to start The Adapted Way.

2023

The Adapted Way is Born

I'll never forget in the spring of 2023, laying in bed and crying over a student I loved dearly, but couldn't imagine being able to participate in Sunday school. I cried to my husband, wondering if anyone would ever give him a chance. If anyone would ever look past his behavior and see a kid. Would anyone invite him to something like Capernaum when he reached high school? While I loved leading Capernaum, I couldn’t stop thinking about the younger kids—those like my student—who needed a place to belong, right now. I spent that summer praying and dreaming about what I could do to make a difference. Then one day in September, I opened Instagram, created a username, and started sharing everything I knew about inclusion and accessibility—hoping that maybe, just maybe, churches would see it.

2024-Today

Growing and Learning

I'm still teaching inclusive pre-k and serving in ministry. The Adapted Way has grown beyond anything I could have imagined in such a short time. Thousands of churches and families around the world have used our resources to make the gospel accessible to everyone—and we’re just getting started. What began as a small step of faith and an instagram post has become a thriving membership with over 50 training videos and hundreds of adapted Bible lessons and resources. Church leaders and volunteers around the world are taking bold steps to make their ministries more accessible and welcoming for people with disabilities. Above all, we continue to pray that God will use The Adapted Way to help churches reach every person with the love of Jesus and make disciples of all nations.

It's my belief that

every child belongs in the church

and deserves access to the gospel. It would be my honor to show you how to overcome the barriers that keep kids with disabilities from accessing your programs so that you can create a ministry that thrives and shares the gospel with everyone.
