Pioneers for the Gospel
May 06, 2025In Romans 15, Paul talks about his deep ambition—to preach the gospel where Christ is not known. His heart was set on reaching those who had never heard the name of Jesus.
I know I’ve probably shared this statistic with you a million times already, but it’s one that continues to weigh heavily on my heart: 90-95% of the disabled population is not effectively reached with the gospel. That number is staggering.
When we think about “unreached people groups,” our minds often go to distant countries where Christianity is outlawed, where Bibles are banned, and where missionaries risk their lives. But the truth is, there is an unreached people group right here—living in our neighborhoods, attending our children’s schools, shopping in the same grocery stores we do.
And yet, only 5-10% of people with disabilities have been effectively reached with the gospel.
Romans 15:20-21 says:
"It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. Rather, as it is written: ‘Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.’”
Paul was a pioneer. He stepped into places where no one else had gone. He worked tirelessly to reach those who had never heard the good news. David Guzik put it so well when he said:
"Paul did not want to build on another man's foundation. Rather, he wanted to do pioneer work for the Lord—not because it was wrong or bad to continue the work begun through another man, but because there was so much work to do on the frontiers."
And that’s exactly what you are doing. You are a pioneer for the Lord.
You are stepping into the frontier of disability ministry, reaching a population that so much of the world has overlooked or considered "too hard to reach." But God sees them. He loves them. And He has called you to be His hands and feet in their lives.
Your work matters. Every time you adapt a Bible lesson, create an inclusive space, or simply show up with a heart to serve, you are making an eternal impact.
So be encouraged today. You are not alone in this mission. God is with you, equipping you, strengthening you, and using you in ways you may not even see yet. Keep going. You are doing kingdom work! 💙
